We've all heard it. "UX/UI Designer." I get it, there are rare unicorns out there who can really do it all. I am not one of them, and here's why.
I love my job. I'm extremely passionate about what I do. Once I start something, I'm not done until I'm ready to finish (sorry in advance, I might be bad at estimating hours). All of my time and energy is spent doing research, looking deeper into the user experience of whatever I'm designing. From my findings, I will provide recommendations based on patterns and trends I see to influence the design of the user interface.
Do you know what I've learned in my journey of designing experiences?
The more time you spend doing research, the more you learn.
- Me
I simply don't have the time to be a UI Designer. I also don't like making decisions without data to back them up. I don't want to pick the color scheme, I just want to make sure your sticky header has the right set of links in it, and your business goals clearly stand out in call-to-actions.
I'd rather not spend my time picking out icons. I'd rather spend my time looking at other sites, reviewing the analytics, seeing what the users are saying, and deciding how to structure the content so it just makes sense. A good design needs a good user experience in order to function. People like things to look pretty, and that's okay.
It's just not the part I do.
